Humans are created to face hardships. Without it, we won’t be as grateful, strong, kind and responsible as we are. Imagine having a life where you don’t fall, don’t make mistakes, don’t feel wrong, don’t get challenged and never to experience anything that makes you push yourself to the limit. We’d be weak, spoiled, emotionless, and probably boastful all the time and who knows what else. Everything happens for a reason. So are the tests of life.

Acknowledging the hardships is one thing and managing them is another. Sometimes, when we are facing difficulties, negative thoughts might creep in and make us feel down. All our worries and fear would accumulate and probably led to negative thinking like “I cannot do it, there’s no way, I don’t deserve this, and I’m useless”.  So, it’s really up to us. WE need to fight the ugly and annoying thoughts in order to stay positive, motivated, focused and healthy! And of course, to achieve our goals!

  1. Create a positive environment

Sure we have a lot of friends and family members around us. But, do take note that sometimes some people just give you endless headaches! They could intentionally (hope not) or unintentionally made us feel demotivated by the way they talk. For example, the kind of people who’d love to brag about them and their families and compare with others. So, choose who we want to be around with WISELY.

Also, consider logging off from the social media for a while to get some me-time, getting to know ourselves better and maybe finding a new more-productive hobby. Maybe try reading blogs or articles that highlight the importance of having wills and motivation in overcoming obstacles and staying positive.

  1. Try to find something positive out of the negative situation

This could be one of the most powerful techniques that we can practice. When things seem to not work out as planned, try to sit, relax and reflect for few minutes. Try to think of other things that we have been blessed with like our good health, the love we get from our family and the fact that we’re still alive today. By doing so, we’ll feel a lot at ease and hopeful instead of feeling demotivated and down with our own self-blaming thoughts.

  1. Avoid making a big deal out of tiny petty things

There are times that we’d become super stressed and our judgments may become clouded. At that moment, anxiety builds up together with negative thoughts and even small matters would make us panic. It felt as if a mountain of problems suddenly appears in front of us and rapidly swallowing our world. This could lead to us feeling demotivated, slightly hopeless and losing perspectives. So, whenever this happens, try these 3 steps; 1) shout ‘STOP’ in your mind and try to shake off the thoughts, followed by 2) calming your mind and body by breathing in and out repetitively, and 3) try asking yourself if the problem is really that big, OR  find someone to talk to and ask for opinions. That way, our perspectives and rationality could potentially be restored.

  1. Exercise frequently and maintain a good eating and sleeping pattern

Like it or not, exercise IS good for your health both physically and mentally. It helps to keep your body and brain well functioned. AND of course, we should always eat properly and keep our tummy filled so that we won’t be pessimistic and make rash decisions. Getting a good and enough sleep is also crucial for our body and brain to rest and lose all the tensions. These basic habits sure do play a huge role to stay positive!

  1. Begin your day positively

It’s really important to start your day with a positive mindset. The moment we wake up, be grateful that we’re still alive and given the chance to do well and improve ourselves. Do a bit of stretching and talk to ourselves that ‘We can do it!’ Try to take things slowly at the beginning. Maybe try having a small chit chat with our family and those familiar faces you see everyday on your way to work and read inspiring articles to help you stay focused, relaxed and optimistic.

All in all, there are various ways to stay positive and sometimes we need to find our own ways. These tips may be working for some but not for others. Nevertheless, we should never give up on ourselves. We are blessed with an intelligent mind and strong physical to face this world. Don’t let the negative thoughts destroy us! Fight back everytime!
