Easy Fixes for Modest Outfits: A Beginner’s Guide to Hijab

How to meet the requirements of hijab while staying chic.

Assalamualaikum everyone! In today’s post I’m going to show you how to meet the requirements of hijab while staying chic. The first thing I want to mention before I start giving out any tips is that hijab is not easy, especially if you are not used to dressing modestly. When you decide to start wearing hijab after realizing the wisdom and power behind the choice, just remember that it is a journey. We should not place pressure on ourselves or anyone else. It takes time to change, and that evolution should be respected.

So without further ado, here are some easy hijab tips for extra modesty:

1. If your sleeves are too short, wear long sleeve shrugs.

I love long sleeve shrugs because they help me get the most use out of my wardrobe. I use these on a regular basis and it’s amazing how easily they work for any weather situation. If the weather is hot, you can wear them underneath a short sleeve dress or top. If the weather is cold, you can use long sleeve shrugs as an extra layering piece to keep your arms extra cozy.

Where to find them: eBay & Amazon

2. If your outfits are too tight, wear an open abaya or long jacket.

I highly recommend for every Muslimah to own a black open abaya because they are so versatile and will match any outfit. If you feel like your current outfit choice is a little too tight or revealing, the problem can easily be fixed with the help of this staple wardrobe item.

3. If you want extra chest coverage, try wearing a separate scarf around your neck.

Wearing a separate scarf around your neck is a great way to keep yourself warm and covered. This tip also works well if you wish to wear shorter hijab styles.

4.  If your dress follows your bum, wear pants instead of leggings.

I personally own a few dresses that are long and modest, but when I wear them with leggings I don’t feel comfortable with how they look on me sometimes. To fix this, I make sure to wear comfy and loose pants instead to solve that problem.
