Halal & Healthy Party Drink Recipes

Just in time for those year-end gatherings!

Our lives revolve around food like the planets revolve around the sun and this is not an understatement! I have experimented more than Thomas Edison has on light bulbs for the perfect party drink, patiently waiting for the little soiree of people to give honest feedback. So far, here are the ones that I would like to document down as successes. You can see how much of a fan I am with basil seeds or otherwise known as biji selasih. It literally adds the pack to the punch!

Watermelon Mint Basil Seeds

What you need:

1 whole watermelon, palm sugar (alternatively you can use brown sugar), fresh mint leaves, basil seeds

What to do:

Slice your watermelon into smaller pieces and keep them aside to ready to blend. Do not worry if they have seeds. Boil a cup of water and dissolve 3 table spoons of palm sugar. Boil another cup of water and pour basil seed in at desired amount, leave for 10 minutes or until it forms a gelatinous coat. Pluck the mint leaves of the stem and soak them in drinking water. Blend watermelon and add your cup of liquid palm sugar, basil seeds and mint leaves! Your drink is ready to be served!

Lime Mint Basil Seeds

What you need:

5 large limes, half a cup of brown sugar, a cup of mint leaves, basil seeds

What to do:

Squeeze 3 limes, throw out the seeds, slice the remaining lime. Dissolve the brown sugar in a cup of hot water. Pluck the mint leave off the stem and wash. Crush the mint leaves between your palm to release the flavour. Basil seeds to be soaked as in the first recipe. Mix all the ingredients together!

Chilled Apple Cinnamon Infusion

What you need:

2 Fuji apples sliced and cored, cinnamon sticks, honey

What to do:

Slice the fuji apples thinly, mix desired amount of water and honey to taste and add cinnamon sticks. Chill in fridge overnight. The ingredients will fuse and extract all the goodness overnight and it is ready to be enjoyed!

Pomegranate Sweet Soda Punch

What you need:

2 pomegranates, soda water, honey.

What to do:

I find this an extremely sophisticated fun drink. The pomegranate arils add a pop in your mouth! Extract pomegranate arils and add honey and soda water. Add any healthy sweetener to taste! Add mint for a touch of freshness.

Lemon Mint Cucumber Tea Infusion

What you need:

2 lemons, half a stick of cucumber, mint tea (or any fruit tea), fresh mint leaves.

What to do:

Slice half a lemon into circles, squeeze the remaining half. Squeeze the other lemon to extract the juice. Slice cucumbers thinly. Soak a handful of mint leaves in warm water. Soak the mint tea bag. Take out the soaked mint leaves and crush the leaves and add all the ingredients together!

I hope you get to try out these recipes and good luck!
