Halal Restaurants in New York are plentiful and delicious, I mean how can we forget that Halal Guys started there?!

No matter who the President of the US is, New York is still a very popular tourist destination for American Muslims as well as Muslim tourists from around the world. Of course, food is one of the most talked about points when planning an itinerary, so we got you covered.

Check the top five Halal places that Halal Girl About Town recommends for you to try out when exploring New York.

Considering New York is one of the biggest food capitals in the world with restaurants in every nook and cranny of Manhattan, the halal food scene has surprisingly taken a while to pick up over there. The non-halal options are great; pierogis, pizza by the slice, and even the breakfast bagels. but what happens when you’re craving something meaty, something halal to be precise. Well, I’ve done the research for you and made a list of five halal restaurants definitely worth checking out when you’re in the Big Apple.

Burgers by Honest Chops

Owned by Honest Chops, a halal butchery based in Greenwich Village, you know that these burgers are going to be great. Their menu is simple and straightforward, with a choice between beef, merguez lamb, and chicken burgers, and two types of fries (the parmesan truffle ones are on my wishlist!). All of the ingredients Burgers by Honest Chops use are of high standard, and the meat has also been ethically sourced – this is not a place to miss on your trip downtown.

Afghan Kebab House

If you’re looking for a good hole-in-the-wall, Afghan Kebab House is the place to go. Having been around for decades in Hell’s Kitchen, they serve up some of the best, authentic Afghani food and are known for their variety of kebabs fresh off the charcoal grill. My suggestion would be to try their popular kabuli palow or share the combo kebab entree with an abundance of sides.

Ravagh

With recipes brought over from Iran over 20 years ago by owners Amir Raoufi and Masoud Tehrani, it is not hard to see why Ravagh is a well-known and much-loved Persian restaurant in Manhattan. Every night the place becomes busy with groups of friends and young families looking for a good, hearty meal, and the service really helps you feel at home. My top picks would be their incredibly juicy joojeh chicken, and the large stuffed pepper.

In the mood for a fancy meal one night whilst you’re out in the Big Apple? Look no further than Junoon, a Michelin-starred Indian restaurant that can cater for those who follow a halal diet. It is a little on the pricey side for dinner, but they do offer a fantastic prix-fixe lunchtime menu for $25. Expect traditional dishes with a twist such as the eggplant chaat, ghost chilli chicken tikka, and lamb boti kebab.

Although they have been around since forever, Halal Guys will always have a cult following with queues down the street at all times of the day! The line may seem long, but with Halal Guys dishing out a platter a minute, you’ll be served in no time, and it is the perfect pick-me-up after hours of sightseeing, or just a quick snack on the way back to the hotel. Be sure to order the mixed chicken and gyro over rice, and an extra helping of their world-famous delicious white sauce.
