“So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.”(Al-Hajj, 22:46)
Through travelling, one could widen their horizon, finding inner peace, explore the unknown and appreciating the beauty of nature. Travelling could also make our iman (faith) stronger through admiring His beautiful and perfect creations.
It really is amazing. How Allah creates people with different features, identities, cultural backgrounds, and languages. Not to mention how Allah manages each and every single one of His creations. Wow!
“It is Allah who subjected to you the sea so that ships may sail upon it by His command and that you may seek of His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful.”(Al-Jathiyah 45:12)
On top of that, we gain wisdom from exploring other lands and countries. We would also learn to have more faith and tawakal by depending 100 percent on Allah. When we travel we take planes, buses, cars or any form of transports and we learn that Allah controls everything; the easiness of the journey, the functionality of the transportations and just about everything!
It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are in ships and they sail with them by a good wind and they rejoice therein, there comes a storm wind and the waves come upon them from everywhere and they assume that they are surrounded, supplicating Allah, sincere to Him in religion, “If You should save us from this, we will surely be among the thankful.”(Yunus 10: 22)
Allah, our creator never intends bad or hardship for us, without a purpose. Yes, we do get tested a lot because indeed humans are created in hardship. But Allah also said that with hardship comes ease.
As a Muslim, it is our obligation to pray 5 times a day. We do it for ourselves, to purify our heart and soul and humbles ourselves. To remind us of where we came from, who we belong to and worshipping the Allah, the One and Only. Allah has made it easy for us to pray. Not only has He reduced the praying times from 50 to 5, but He had also set a condition where we can shorten or combine our prayer depending on the situation. Isn’t that just sweet of Allah?
So really, there should be no reason for us not to pray. Particularly when we travel. Some Muslims might think that it is a bit troublesome to pray due to lack of prayer rooms or having to stop at many places to pray while trying to catch up with the journey.
So here are the 4 things that we should prepare when we travel to make prayers easy and enjoyable instead of a burden!
Prayer time’s app
Nowadays its very convenient because we have internet and gadgets!. We could just browse for the prayer times or download an app with this feature, for instance, Muslim Pro or THiJARI app (link)
2. Compass app
Assuming at the time we cannot find a prayer room and have to pray outdoor, it is essential to have a compass app. Google for the coordinate of the Qiblat beforehand and use the compass app to locate the direction. Even though the Muslim Pro app has the Qiblat locater, we can always double check with the compass app.
Don’t forget to bring a prayer mat! In some cases, we might find that the prayer room has insufficient prayer mat or if we were to pray outdoors, then the prayer mat is a must! We can just bring the light, thin, easily washable and foldable prayer mats.
Men mostly don’t have problems with this. They can just wear long pants with proper shirts. For some women, their clothes are prayer ready. They wear long headscarves, tops, and loose pants, while others might wear clothes that need more coverings with the ‘Telekung’. Or some people just really prefer to wear telekung even if their clothes are already suitable to be brought to prayer. We can bring along a light and cool yet beautiful telekung by Qasha!
